FAQ

What is Microblading?
Microblading is a form of permanent makeup where a small blade is used to create thin hair-like strokes throughout a person's brows, giving the illusion of a full, natural brow. Is it a semi-permanent procedure, with results lasting 1-3 years. Microblading is meant to be a natural enhancement, and to create the appearance of full, beautiful brows. It looks most natural on clients who have full brow hair, and are wanting to perfect their shape and add natural fullness. The more hair you have, the more natural it will appear. This is not an ideal service for those with little natural hair, hair that is patchy, or coarse hair. Microblading heals best on young, normal/dry skin. Those with combination/oily or aging skin are not candidates for microblading.

What can I expect immediately after my Microblading appointment?
Immediately after getting your brows done, you may experience minor redness or swelling around the treated area, which typically goes away within 24 hours. Over the next few hours, the pigment in the skin will oxidize, making the brows look darker and warmer (red) then they were initially. This is normal and expected. Pigment typically fades anywhere from 20-40% once fully healed. Around day 3-4, you may notice light scabbing and flaking on the treated area. This is normal! Please refrain from picking at the flakes. Doing so will result in loss of pigment in those areas and can cause scarring. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished healing. Once all the flaking is complete (usually around day 10), the brows will appear much lighter. The pigment will darken over the next 4-6 weeks and the pigment will return to the skin in its healed color. At 4-6 weeks, your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment that does not return will be addressed at your touch up appointment. At this appointment, we will assess your retention, touch up the spots that didn’t stick, and can adjust the pigment color. Once brows have healed from your touch up appointment, you will have beautiful, full brows for many months!

How long does Microblading last?
Permanent makeup is designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, metabolism, medications, and pigment color affect the longevity of the tattoo.  The sun and some kinds of lighting (tanning beds) can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down.  Following the given aftercare instructions is critical to getting your best healed results, and touch-up your brows every 12-18 months (as needed). Touch-ups are normal and expected for Permanent Cosmetics.
*Please note that final results vary and CANNOT be guaranteed due to the nature of skin as it heals. A free follow-up appointment is recommended 4-6 weeks after your initial session where we can assess your pigment retention and perfect your permanent makeup! If you do not make your follow up appointment within 4-8 weeks of your initial appointment, additional charges will apply.

Am I a candidate for Microblading?
Unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate for permanent makeup. I want each of my clients to get the absolute best results possible, and not every skin type accommodates that. The following list disqualifies you from currently receiving permanent makeup. With questions regarding your specific question, please email sierrawalksout@gmail.com.

You are not a candidate for Microblading if you are any of the following:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Currently using or have been on Accutane within the last 6 months

  • Have a freshly sunburned face

  • Have skin conditions on the brow area. This includes rashes, psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, shingles, varicella, etc. Minor scars are OK.

  • Are prone to post-inflammatory hypo-pigmentation or keloids.

  • Have a transmittable blood disease such as HIV or hepatitis.

  • Have hemophilia or are taking blood thinning medications/supplements.

  • Are currently undergoing treatment for cancer

  • Chemotherapy or Radiation treatment within the last 12 months.we will request a doctor's note before we can perform the procedure.

  • Those who have healing disorders, uncontrolled high blood pressure or mitral valve disorder.

What is a Microblading touch up for and why am I being charged for doing it a few months later?

All Permanent Cosmetic procedures are a two session process when you’re first starting. Nobody heals 100% perfectly from their first session therefore a touch up 4 to 8 weeks after ensures the desired outcome and the longest lastings results. This also gives us the opportunity to take baby steps if you’re nervous about it not looking natural. We can always start conservative and then add more in the touch up if desired. It is very important to come in for your touch up within 4-8 weeks of your initial session. At this time frame, I can touch up spots here and there that need it. If the touch up is done 3+ months after, typically I will need to go over the entire procedure area again to ensure there will not be an uneven fade out. In this case, it would now be considered a Refresh appointment and additional charges will be applied accordingly. To avoid extra charges or missing your time frame - book both your initial session and your touch up at the same time! Typically Annual Refresh appointments don’t require a touch up however, they are included if they are needed!

Does the Microblading procedure hurt?

Most clients report little pain throughout their procedure. While pain tolerance varies between clients, a topical 5% Lidocaine is used throughout the procedure to make you comfortable. Having the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity.

What are Faux Freckle Tattoos?

Natural looking freckles tattooed with semi-permanent cosmetic pigments. The colour, amount and placement are customized for each client.

How will I look immediately after? What is the healing process for Faux Freckles/Beauty Marks?

Redness and swelling are normal and will be significantly reduced within a few hours. Your skin may be tender for the next day or so. The healing process is similar to a small tattoo, scrape or sunburn. Your cosmetic tattoo will appear slightly darker, sharper and larger than expected for the first few days. It may feel dry, tight or itchy as a light scab forms and flakes off to reveal a new layer of skin underneath. The healing process usually takes 5-7 days. The color will settle in over the next week or so after the skin has completely healed. Healing times and experiences will vary from person to person. It is normal for some of the marks to fade more than others or to even completely disappear. It is extremely important to follow your aftercare instructions for optimal results!

  • Accutane or steroids in the last 6 months (consult with doctor)

How long does the healing process take for Faux Freckles/Beauty Marks?

Initial healing takes about 10 days or less for most people. The freckles can look dark and dramatic for up to a week before they flake off, and will need to be carefully cared for and kept clean until the initial healing process is over. After 2 weeks, the freckles will appear healed but will still take a couple more weeks to fully settle in. Please see the Aftercare section for more detailed information.

How is the placement of the Faux Freckles/Beauty Marks decided on?

After cleaning the skin (and after pre-numbing if applicable) we will draw the freckles using tattoo ink, which allows us to play around with placement/size/colour while being able to imagine what they'll look like. You're welcome to bring reference or inspiration material if you want, and we can design them together!

Can you darken a mole that I have?

Unfortunately I can't tattoo over top of a natural mole. It's important to be able to detect any colour or shape changes in a mole over time, and most tattoo artists won't tattoo over them for this reason. If the spot is at all raised, shiny or has a different texture than the surrounding area it's best to leave it alone.

Can I wear makeup over my Faux Freckles/Beauty Marks?

While they are healing, no. You won't be able to put any makeup or powder over them for about 2 weeks. Once they're healed, you absolutely can. While the freckles are healing, the tattooed area needs to be kept clean and free of all beauty products.

Does the Faux Freckles/Beauty Marks procedure hurt?

Pain levels vary from person to person. Strong medical grade topical anesthetic cream is used before and during your procedure to keep you as pain free as possible. Every effort is made to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible for the entire process. Preparing for your tattoo in advance really does make a significant difference in how much pain and swelling you may experience. Make sure that you are well rested, sober, hydrated, and have had something to eat prior to your appointment. For most clients, redness and swelling is minimal. Having the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity.
